Hydrogen Power Stations
Engineering Capability for the Energy Transition
Hydrogen Power Stations are moving from a long-term energy transition target to a near-term engineering challenge. Operators across mining, utilities, and industrials are beginning to ask the same questions: what infrastructure is needed, what does conversion from conventional fuels actually require, and who has the engineering depth to deliver it in the markets where it matters most?
USP&E does not claim to have solved hydrogen. What we bring is the engineering foundation that hydrogen-ready infrastructure demands: proven EPC capability, in-house power system design, thermal generation expertise across all major OEMs, BESS integration experience, and long-term O&M delivery in the environments where energy transition is not a corporate communications exercise but an operational reality.
What we Deliver
USP&E’s capability in hydrogen infrastructure is built on the same core disciplines we apply across all complex power projects.
Feasibility and Trade-Off Studies
Before committing to hydrogen infrastructure, operators need a technically grounded view of what is viable for their site, load profile, and fuel supply context. USP&E conducts power supply trade-off studies spanning conventional generation, gas, hybrid systems, and renewable-hydrogen configurations, giving clients the analysis they need to make bankable decisions.
Power-to-X and Green Hydrogen System Design
We work with clients and technology partners to design systems that generate green hydrogen from renewable energy using electrolysis, coupling solar or wind generation with hydrogen production for use as a clean fuel source. These configurations, often referred to as Power-to-X, integrate the same modular, site-adapted engineering approach we apply across all hybrid power projects.
Dual-Fuel and Hydrogen-Ready Conversion Engineering
Many of the thermal assets USP&E works with are capable of operating on hydrogen blends or transitioning to hydrogen-ready configurations. Our engineering team designs and executes conversion programmes that extend the operational life of existing assets while reducing reliance on conventional fuels, without compromising uptime.
EPC and Turnkey Delivery
For clients ready to build, USP&E delivers full-scope EPC services: engineering design, procurement, construction oversight, and commissioning. We act as the single point of technical accountability throughout, applying the same quality assurance, peer-review, and frontier-readiness standards we bring to every power project.
O&M and Long-Term Support
Once a hydrogen-enabled system is operational, USP&E provides the ongoing operations and maintenance support to sustain performance, manage safety systems, and optimise output over the asset lifecycle.
Why USP&E
The engineering foundation is already in place
Hydrogen infrastructure is not a departure from what USP&E does. It is an extension of it. Feasibility studies, complex system integration, modular EPC delivery, long-term O&M in remote environments: these are the disciplines that define our track record. Clients do not need a hydrogen specialist who cannot execute. They need an engineering partner who can execute and understand hydrogen.
We operate where energy transition is most urgent
The markets where USP&E has built its reputation are also the markets where the pressure to reduce diesel dependency and lower emissions is highest. Mining operations in West Africa, industrial sites in the Middle East, off-grid power projects across frontier environments: these are not markets where hydrogen is a distant ambition. They are markets where every percentage reduction in fuel cost and emissions has immediate operational and commercial value.
We bring the thermal-to-hydrogen conversion knowledge
Our experience across Wartsila, MAN, Caterpillar, Hyundai HiMSEN, GE, Siemens, Pratt and Whitney, and Wabtec engine platforms means we understand how existing thermal assets can be adapted, staged, or replaced as hydrogen supply chains develop. We do not advocate for wholesale replacement where conversion or blending delivers better outcomes for the client
We integrate across the full energy system
Hydrogen does not operate in isolation. It connects to solar generation, battery storage, grid management, and thermal backup. As a channel partner for both Huawei Energy (BESS) and Wabtec (thermal generation), and with in-house SCADA and SMARTPower integration capability, USP&E designs systems where every component is coordinated from day one.
