Case Studies: Engineering & Project Execution
utility power station Guinea
40 MW Utility Power Station Delivered Ahead of Schedule
THE CHALLENGE
The utility power station in Guinea, with installed generation capacity at just over 550 MW, only 26% of Guineans have access to reliable energy, dropping to just 11% in rural areas. Electricity distribution under EDG suffers from weak governance, aging infrastructure, poor maintenance, frequent blackouts, high theft rates, and poor financial performance. Guinea needed new utility-scale generation capacity to strengthen national electricity supply.
The Solution
USP&E delivered a 40 MW HFO power station featuring four MAN 18V32/40 engines operating on medium fuel oil (RME180). We led full project execution, including engineering, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning, acting as the single point of technical accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
The Outcome
The project was completed in 10 months and commissioned 2 months ahead of schedule, on budget. The new power station improved electricity availability and grid reliability for the region.
