THE CHALLENGE

The Elders Underground Access Project involves constructing infrastructure to access coal reserves via incline shafts, powered by a single 132 kV Eskom line. A standby generator was needed to power ventilation fans. The project required coordination and design interface with multiple service providers and engineering design teams to ensure full installation for the mine. With numerous components required to be operational, extensive collaboration with all parties upstream and downstream was essential. Weather conditions in the region also weighed heavily on logistics.

The Solution

USP&E was selected as the EPC contractor for a turnkey diesel power station project. Our solution comprised a new Cummins KTA50G3 package with custom enclosure, fuel tank, controls, and packaging. In addition, USP&E was selected to supply and operate 3 x 1 MW rental packages to support operations during implementation.

The Outcome

The project was successfully completed. Through continuous client and operations team engagement, USP&E enhanced the final package to perform better than originally anticipated, providing the client with seamless operation.
