Case Studies: Engineering and Project Execution
Mining power station in Mauritania
Mining Power Station Backup for Large-Scale Gold Operations
THE CHALLENGE
The Tasiast Gold Mine is a gold deposit located in central western Mauritania, near the coast. The operating licence is held by Tasiast Mauritanie Limited S.A., a subsidiary of Kinross Gold Corporation. The mine has an installed capacity of 60 MW via a large Wärtsilä genset, with a 34 MW solar project also under construction. The client required additional on-site power generation capacity to provide backup for the process plant and support large-scale mining operations in a remote environment.
The Solution
USP&E was selected to supply and install a Caterpillar power station for process plant power backup. The solution comprised low-hour Cat 3516B generator sets with new switchgear, delivered and integrated to meet site requirements.
The Outcome
USP&E delivered on time and on budget, providing the mine with reliable backup power capacity to support operations within a demanding mining environment.
Built for the Frontier
This project demonstrates Ownership and Agility in action: USP&E delivered verified, deployment-ready power assets to support a major mining operation in a remote coastal location. Entrepreneurial speed. Engineering credibility. That is what Powering Precision means.
