Case Studies: Operations and Maintenance
Mining Power Plant Engine Overhauls
CAT 3516B and MAK 6CM32 Asset Life Extension at Perkoa Zinc Mine
THE CHALLENGE
Perkoa was a zinc mine owned by Trevali in Canada, operating for decades in Burkina Faso. The Caterpillar-driven power station servicing the mine on a 24/7 island power basis was overdue for major services and was beginning to experience significant reliability issues. The client needed emergency services to stabilise performance and extend asset life.
The Solution
USP&E deployed a team within days of the request to perform a site visit and then get to work. We rapidly shipped in spare parts for the Cat 3516B and MaK 6CM32 engines and auxiliary equipment. USP&E performed top, bottom, and major overhauls, 12k and 16k services, and supplied only Cat-certified spare parts throughout.
The Outcome
USP&E preserved and extended the asset life of the aging power station. The power plant continued to operate reliably in support of mining activities, with improved operational stability and reduced downtime risk.
Client Reference
