Case Studies: Asset Sales
IRAQ | MAN POWER PLANT REDEPLOYMENT
Rapid MAN Power Plant Redeployment Across Four Countries
Background
An Indonesian client held a state-of-the-art 32 MW MAN power plant worth over $40 million, including four unused MAN generators. The equipment was in pristine condition and featured a clean exhaust system in line with modern environmental standards. Regulatory changes in Indonesia meant heavy fuel oil (HFO) power plants were no longer permitted, leaving the client with high-value stranded assets. Meanwhile, an industrial client in Iraq urgently needed power, and global manufacturers were quoting 12 to 18 months for new medium-speed HFO engines.
The Solution
USP&E secured a buyer in Iraq for the unused MAN power plant. The client also required two additional MAN generators, which USP&E sourced from a client in Dubai who had surplus units stored in Germany. We travelled to Duisburg, Germany to verify the auxiliary equipment for the balance of plant. The six MAN generators and auxiliary equipment were then prepared for transport in Mannheim, Germany, loaded onto a barge, and transported down the Rhine River to Belgium for shipment to Iraq.
The Outcome
The project advanced without delays. The Iraqi client secured the equipment at a significant discount from the original price and could proceed with installation immediately, saving both time and money. The Indonesian asset owner was pleased with both the financial outcome and USP&E’s swift, efficient service.
