Case Studies: Project Execution
HFO Power Station in Sierra Leone
16 MW HFO Power Station Delivered Ahead of Schedule
THE CHALLENGE
London Mining Plc operated the Marampa Iron Ore Mine near Lunsar, outside of Freetown. To develop the site and process ore, the client required a 16 MW HFO power station designed and delivered in a frontier operating environment with infrastructure, logistics, and site constraints.
The Solution
USP&E was appointed to design, engineer, supply, install, commission, service, and maintain the 16 MW HFO power station. The plant featured 10 HHI 9L21/32 engines operating on medium fuel oil (RME180). USP&E led full project execution, acting as the single point of technical accountability from design through to commissioning.
The Outcome
The project took 5 months to complete and was commissioned 2 months ahead of schedule, on budget. The power station contributed new generation capacity to support mining operations.
