30 MW Gold Mine Power Station with Integrated Operations at Syama Gold Mine
THE CHALLENGE
Syama Gold Mine includes the Syama Underground Mine, Tabakoroni Complex (with open-pit and new underground reserves), and satellite oxide pits. Managed by Société des Mines de Syama S.A. (SOMISY), Resolute holds 80%, with the Government of Mali owning 20%. The mine required a large-scale, reliable power generation solution to support continuous mining operations, including process plant and process water supply. The project faced challenges related to safety, environmental management, production efficiency, logistics, regulatory compliance, community relations, and financial risk mitigation. Coordination among Resolute Group subsidiaries added further complexity.
The Solution
USP&E was selected to supply, install, and operate a 30 MW Caterpillar power station for process plant and process water supply to the mine site. The solution comprised low-hour Cat 3516B and 3512 engines with 11 kV alternators and new switchgear. USP&E delivered full project execution and supported plant operations following commissioning, providing continuity from delivery into live operation.
The Outcome
USP&E installed, commissioned, and operated over 30 MW of total diesel power plant capacity for the client’s operations in Mali from 2007 to 2010. The mine achieved reliable on-site power generation to support continuous operations.
