THE CHALLENGE
Togo faced a major power crisis following reduced electricity imports from Ghana and limited gas deliveries from Nigeria, resulting in widespread blackouts and production losses. The national grid was unable to meet rising demand, and traditional infrastructure expansion would have taken years to deliver results. The country needed a fast, affordable, and scalable solution that could strengthen the network and ensure long-term energy reliability.
The Solution
WAP&G sought an experienced partner, and USP&E was chosen for its proven ability to mobilise quickly, deliver dependable power solutions, and operate in challenging environments. USP&E supported the deployment of two TM2500 mobile gas turbines under a rental model. Leveraging global stockholding and logistics capabilities, the units were mobilised, installed, and commissioned within weeks. The use of refurbished, high-performance equipment reduced costs, while a 3 to 5 year O&M contract ensured long-term reliability and operational peace of mind.
The Outcome
Within weeks, 50 MW of reliable power was restored to Togo’s grid, stabilising the network and reducing outages. The programme provided the utility with immediate relief while longer-term capacity solutions were developed separately.
